Rumble in Sierra Leone over looted govt funds

The erstwhile president of Sierra Leone Ernest Bai Koroma has pleaded with the current government of President Julius Maada Bio to have a negotiated settlement.

Feelers from state house in Freetown say they are pleading with President Bio to think about the 11 year civil war that ravaged the country and renegotiate certain things instead of going to commission of inquiry probing the former administration.

President Julius Maada Bio is reported to have refused their plead and insisted that everyone should face the commission.

The All People’s Congress (APC) has also agreed to secretly return all stolen money to the government.

The significance of this appeal from the APC is that, since the commission of inquiry proceedings will be televised, the APC party do not want Sierra Leoneans to know the magnitude of their corruption during their 11 years governance as that will seriously count against them in the 2023 and 2028 elections.
President Julius Maada Bio so far has turned down their request.
