Arsenal have struggled at the back in recent seasons, though have failed to make a big-money signing to help.
They attempted to sign Gbamin from Mainz last summer, but their bid for the 23-year-old failed.
Arsenal’s only signing in January came with the arrival of Denis Suarez, who was brought in on loan from Barcelona.
But Emery is set to make permanent signings this summer as he continues to put his stamp on the Gunners.
And Express Sport understands that the Spaniard will go back in for Gbamin when the summer window opens.
Gbamin is wanted by a host of Premier League clubs having impressed at Mainz, since joining from Lens.
One sticking point could be the Ivorian’s fee.
It’s believed Mainz want £40million for Gbamin with Emery set to have a £45m budget for the summer.
But the fee may be lowered if Gbamin wants out, with him admitting that he is ready to move on.
“I basically feel ready for the next step and can well imagine starting a new chapter,” he recently said.
“Through my achievements, I have made clubs aware of me, where I see a good chance to go to this next stage in my sporting and personal development.
“At the moment I give 100 per cent for Mainz and I am very satisfied with how much we have improved.
“What will happen after the season, we have to wait and see.
“I have taken the development that I had hoped for myself.
“The first season was a year of apprenticeship in a league unknown to me. In the second year, I’ve been able to implement what I’ve learned a lot better and show what I really can do.
“That’s why I went to Germany. But I can promise that this is not the end. I am convinced of my abilities and I am getting even better!”
Arsenal’s last game saw them win 2-1 at Huddersfield on Saturday and the Gunners are the only Premier League team yet to keep a clean sheet away from home.
