Arsenal boss Unai Emery gives Crystal Palace defeat verdict and warns top four rivals | Football | Sport

Arsenal lost 3-2 at the Emirates thanks to goals from Christian Benteke, Wilfried Zaha and James McArthur.

Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted for the Gunners but it wasn’t enough to take any points from the fixture, and Unai Emery was far from happy with the overall performance.

Emery’s side had a golden opportunity to make ground in the race for a top our place after Manchester United lost 4-0 to Everton earlier in the day, but failed to capitalise.

“In the first half with the possession we were better,” the Spaniard told BBC Sport.

“The second half we started well and we drove.

“The second goal gave them confidence to continue and beat us. Our second goal gave us opportunity.

“They were very good tactically and were organised defensively. In the set pieces they gave us a problem.

“We brought on Alex Iwobi and we were better but their second goal was very bad for us and took away our confidence.”

Arsenal sit fourth in the table with four games to go, but Chelsea are behind only on goal difference with United just two points further back.

“We had fresh players and energy but in front we had a very good team,” Emery continued.

“To finish in the top four is in our hands.

“Our first target is to get to the Champions League through the Premier League or Europa League.

“We lost a big opportunity but it doesn’t change our idea.

“We feel very strong here but it’s very difficult to repeat to win.

“A day can happen like today. They [Crystal Palace] have very good players and an experienced coach.

“We respect them a lot but on the pitch we cannot today impose our gameplan.”
